Q: How do you communicate the important concepts of carseat safety to people who speak little or no English?
A: Create a video that can be understood through image and motion alone, without voiceover or onscreen copy

Goal:
Create an universal animated guide for safe carseat use using no onscreen copy or voiceover for new parents who may or may not speak English

My Role:
"Storyboarding, illustration, and 2D animation. I collaborated with the client and our art director to develop visuals to communicate proper installation and use of a carseat

Process Highlights:

  • Sketched the visuals to clearly communicate the message for approval to the art director

  • Storyboarded/illustrated based off the approved drawings in Adobe Illustrator for approval from the client

  • Animated the illustrations in Adobe After Effects to pass along to the editor for final assembly and approval from client

Result:

  • The largest childrens hospital in Minnesota, which serves many new residents who are still learning the language now has a valuable resource for new parents who may not speak English

  • Childrens Minnesota was able to share this resource with other hospitals and organizations working with new parents

  • Direct feedback in at least one case from a new residents from central America expressing their appreciation for this resource
